How Your Home Affects Your Health & Longevity
/Have you ever considered how your home affects your health? Walk into a space that’s recently been painted and most people will say it smells like ‘fresh’ paint. Yet, that fresh scent is actually the high concentration of VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) turning into vapor and off-gassing into the air as it dries. A similar process occurs with newly installed carpet. The synthetic fibers, latex backings and stain treatments all produce VOC’s that create that ‘new carpet smell’. Instead of fresh and new, you are actually smelling chemicals that are compromising both your short-term and long-term health.
Your home directly affects your health, often times in ways that are invisible to you. And the effects are not confined to things that you can see, such as mold and mildew, peeling paint or dust accumulation. They extend to the less obvious culprits like radon, tap water contaminants, and cookware toxins. Most of the time, people don’t realize that they are being continuously exposed to toxins and that they could be the reason for low energy or chronically congested.
With 60% of consumers saying health and wellness is a top priority for them, the longevity industry has expanded from being niche to over 120 million consumers actively purchasing a wellness product or service in the past year. These products could be PEMF mats, red light therapy, wearable trackers, and cellular longevity supplements.
They could also be products for the home, which is becoming a rising trend in the wellness space. Whole house reverse osmosis filtration systems, infrared saunas, circadian lighting and smart climate beds are a few of the options available to people wanting to optimize their home to fit their longevity goals.
Improving your home’s health doesn’t need to be expensive or complicated. There are easy things that you can do today such as adding plants to clean your air or switch out your air fresheners that emit VOC’s to an essential oil diffuser. I will share more ideas in a future post. Take the first step to a healthier home by going here for a short 10 question quiz to help you determine your home’s longevity score.
